Ever heard the saying “Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”?
The same concept can be applied to copywriting.
You can be given all the swipe files and formulas to get you across the line, but if you don’t actually know what you’re doing (or why) you’ll never be a truly successful writer.
I made this exact mistake when I started. I thought I knew everything about copywriting. After all, I had built and sold my own businesses, surely I knew something.
Of course, I was very wrong.
I’ve personally taken many of the copywriting courses on this list. Some of them are short and very specific, while others will start right from the beginning and teach you everything there is to know about copywriting. By the end of this article, you’ll know which copywriting course is best for you!
Why should you take a copywriting course?
I get it.
Some courses are a complete waste of money and time.
But hear me out.
If you’re taking a course from someone credible, with tangible results and epic reviews then it’s a great idea. I’ve never regretted a single course I’ve taken, even the sh*t ones. They’ve still taught me something.
Here are five reasons why you should take a copywriting course if you’re serious about making it as a copywriter:
- It will improve your mindset
- It will improve your technical skills
- It will motivate you to reach your potential
- It will increase your earning ability since you’ll now be more qualified
- You’ll become more efficient since you’ll learn the best practices and get access to better resources
- Your network will grow since you get access to a community of other highly driven copywriters (this in itself should be enough)

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
How much should I spend on a course?
This is like asking how long a piece of string is. It’s really based on what you can comfortably afford. However, I personally wouldn’t pay for a copywriting course that’s more than $2,500. This seems excessive to me and there are plenty of courses cheaper that include access to the communities.
Are free copywriting courses good?
They’re a great way to determine whether copywriting is for you. They won’t teach you everything you need to know but if you’re looking to learn more about copywriting before jumping in they’re a great option. Keep in mind that you’ll be more motivated and determined to finish a course if you paid for it.
Does it matter if I’m a freelancer or an in-house copywriter?
If you don’t plan on freelancing I would purchase a course that isn’t specific to freelancers. These courses tend to have a lot of modules on structuring your freelance business which won’t be relevant to you.
Are copywriting courses worth it?
A copywriting course is 100% worth it if the outcome is aligned with your expectation. Not all copywriting courses are created equally, so it’s essential to make sure you find one that suits your experience level, budget, and desired outcome. Some might teach you how to land clients, others might only teach you how to write email sequences. And some will do all of that and more.
Copywriting courses are a great way to improve your skills and earn more money. The best copywriting course for you will depend on your goals and budget. As a beginner who wants to save time, I would suggest Copy That by Sam Parr or The Simple Science of Copywriting. For someone with a bigger budget and more time the Internet’s Best Copywriting Course by Jacob McMillan could be a great option.
Remember, you don’t have to stick to one course, you could always try multiple. After I completed Jacob Mcmillan’s course I also committed to Try Copy That by Sam Parr for 10 days. Together, they really improve my skills and I can confidently say it was worth the investment.
